Horwood Show

Wow!

After a 2 year sabbatical the Village Show (now The Horwood Show) was back with a bang. There were a record number of entrants (split: 2/3rds Little Horwood, 1/3rd Great Horwood) and a fantastic display of entries. The lack of vegetables (apparently there has been a drought!) was made up for by the fruit and flowers which had thrived in the frost-free and sunny season. The creative villagers had been busy painting, sewing and constructing, so much so, that there will be an extra handicraft section next year. The children’s classes were well entered and as always there was a mouth watering display of baking.

The predicted problems with opening the borders with both for a day did unfortunately materialise when my cattle heard and decided to take a walk around Great Horwood parish uninvited. With me otherwise distracted the helpers were short staffed, but Charlotte, Clare, Fi and families coped admirably with the morning staging and judging.

Fortunately, by lunchtime some sort of order was restored on Hill Farm and I was able to spend the afternoon extracting money from unsuspecting victims (I mean guests) via the raffle and auction.

Everyone joined in with the upbeat spirit at the event and I would like to thank their patience and generosity, which made the event such a success.

Many thanks must go to the Horwood Show sub committee, the judges and, of course, everyone who took part.

Planning is already underway for next year’s Show (watch the usual media outlets for updates and reminders) when hopefully we can build on the success of the inaugurated Horwood Show.

Kate would be chuffed!
