Millennium Wood

and Nature Reserve

Little Horwoodians are fortunate to have many beautiful country walks on their doorstep and the Parish Council owns around 11 acres of green spaces with footpaths linking to the surrounding countryside. That the village has such wonderful green spaces is very much down to the vision and drive of residents Mike and Barbara Jones, who over four decades worked tirelessly to plant and care for them.

One such green space is the Nature Reserve that was planted by the Jones family and other villagers in the 1980s. The pit was originally a quarry for road stone that was then used by Winslow Rural District Council as a rubbish dump. It was bulldozed and covered with soil of varying depth and quality, and odd items of refuse occasionally come to the surface.

Additional agricultural land was acquired in 2000 to extend the Nature Reserve with a Millennium Wood, a meadow, orchard and a woodland walk. The latter connects the Nature Reserve to the village from a gateway on Winslow Road near the allotments, and from the footpath that runs through Green Farm.
